What gives a symbol significance outside cultural context? I am interested in perceptual symbols - how simple aesthetic choices can affect, alter, distort, or bring into focus aspects of the material world otherwise unseen, fleeting on the fringes conciousness of the subject. There is no hidden message in my artwork, no riddle to unravel. The objective is in the act of looking and questioning. What happens in the first moment of encountering the unrecognizable? What is between absence and presence? What is plain, and what is concealed?
